Since 1998, one ambition was set by the British and the Egyptian governments, that ambition was the formation of the British University in Egypt (BUE) that could produce graduates of UK standards to enter key sectors of the Egyptian economy. A group of UK universities, led by Loughborough University, will provide the academic direction, teaching and quality management processes thereby ensuring the 'British' quality of the education.
BUE welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2005 when they began their degree studies on a brand new state-of-the-art campus. Further developments now completed include a large-scale auditorium and conference facilities, a new library, staff buildings, and a recreational complex. Located in El Sherouk, the University campus covers approximately 50 acres (feddans) of land.
The German University in Cairo, GUC, is an Egyptian Private University founded by the presidential decree 27/2002, according to the law number 101/1992 and its executive regulations number 355/1996. GUC is established in cooperation with the State Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart, under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education , the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts, State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Embassy in Cairo, the Arab/German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany.
